Tamiya Chipping Liquid
- Type
- Chipping Wheathering
Chipping is an excellent way of adding realism to your static models, simulating wear by allowing a base color to peep through the top coat.
This handy product is applied onto the base coat, with an acrylic top coat applied there after.
Apply water to the top coat and it comes away to reveal the base color underneath.
About the Product
Water-based
The images shows an example of use.
Use Tamiya Color lacquer-based paints (LP, TS, AS series) as the basecoat. Please note that gloss and metallic colors cannot be used. Matte metallic colors are OK.
Use Tamiya Color acrylic paints for the top coat.
How to use the Chipping Liquid
First, apply a basecoat using lacquer-based Tamiya Colors (LP, TS, AS series). Gloss and metallic paints repel the liquid and cannot be used.
Apply a layer of Chipping Liquid with a brush or airbrush. It can be diluted with water if required.
Apply a top coat of Tamiya Color Acrylic Paint.
Brush water onto areas where you want to chip away the topcoat, then wait a few minutes.
Use a toothpick or similar implement to chip the part, then let it dry. Chipping Liquid drops in effectiveness the longer a part is left after its top coat. Tamiya recommends shipping within a week of applying the topcoat.
