For years, nothing...then all of a sudden, we get two kits of the elusive German LWS! Yes, hot on the heels of Bronco's release comes the Hobby Boss version of everybody's favorite amphibious armored tractor. The molding is sharp, the detail is great (nice interior included), and the tracks are one-piece flexible belts. Photo-etched metal parts are included to take the detail to even higher levels of realism. Decals are included for one North African version. Rope bumper, figures, and Nazi flag are not included. (Lion Roar makes a set of rope bumper parts, linked below, but these were designed for the Bronco kit and may or may not fit perfectly to the Hobby Boss kit.) Another great kit of a rare vehicle!

Development of the Land-wasser-schlepper (Land-Water-Tractor) started in 1936, but the first 7 vehicles were completed in July of 1940. An additional 14 were produced by March of 1941. It was designed by Rheinmetall-Borsig as an amphibious vehicle for use by engineers but it lacked storage and loading/unloading access. To overcome this problem, special 10 and 20 ton amphibious trailers were made. It carried 3 to 5 men crew and 20 passengers. Another problem was that it was unarmored and could not operate effectively in the combat area. LWS saw service in Russia and North Africa . |
