Adapted from ICM:
In the beginning of the 30's, the idea to create a high-speed bomber that could outstrip contemporary fighters began. And one of the results of this conception turned into the twin-engine bomber Bo 17, designed by the German Dornier Flugzeugwerke company. Starting in 1939, they produced Do 187Z planes with new "Waffenkopf"-type nose parts and air-cooled Bramo 323 Fafnir engines.
From 1939-1940, they produced about 500 Do 17Z-1 and Do 17Z-2 bombers. They took part in all 1939-1941 Luftwaffe operations. These aircraft were also transferred to Finland.
