A highly detailed model of the Corsair II, in many ways looking like a scaled-down version of the 1/48 Hasegawa kit or 1/32 Trumpeter kit. Avionics bays are molded into the fuselage halves, the cockpit has a correct rear deck behind the ejection seat, and a proper nose-gear well is included. "Things under the wings" are included in the form of FLIR pod, two drop tanks, two Sidewinder missiles, two MERs, and 18 Mk82 bombs (with 10 normal and 10 "daisy cutter" fuses). Cockpit and landing gear are very well done, and in this scale perhaps Hobby Boss can be forgiven for using decals for the panels in the cockpit. And speaking of decals, we are given markings for two colorful A-7Es: NJ/201 of VA-122 in full Bicentennial markings, and NK/300 of VA-97 off the Coral Sea in 1979--with the recognition stripes applied to the abortive Tehran mission.

The LTV A-7 Corsair II was a light attack aircraft based on the F-8 Crusader. The A-7 was one of the first combat aircraft to feature a head-up display (HUD). doppler-bounded inertial navigation system, and a turbofan engine. It served with both the United States Navy and the United States Air Force, and later with the Air National Guard. It was also exported to South Vietnam (during the Vietnam War), Greece (A-7H), Portugal(A-7P), and Thailand (in the late 1980s) |
